VALERY PECHEYKIN: BEING A GAY IN LIFE

The whole world - bed

Valery Nugatov - a poet for all and for anyone. Most will understand what he wrote in his "white poetry", but most do not understand why, calling himself a poet, he rhymes posts. However, Nugatov not only a poet but also a translator of works by Maurice Maeterlinck, John Faulz novels, Irvine Welch, George Bataya and many others. Thanks to his talent in Russian came "Tiresias" Marcel Zhuando and "The agony of a member of" Francois-Paul Aliber. This is my first question.

Not being gay, you translated texts "homosexual content". What did you feel during this work?

Oh, it was an unforgettable experience! To begin with, that Zhuando, Aliber, and others of the same orientation I was translating, not because they are gay and they write about gays, but because their works have unquestionable artistic value. This is important. Besides craft akin to an interpreter craft of the actor and suggests some degree of transformation (in the author and his characters), without which, probably impossible to truly successful, interesting and lively translation. For example, translating "Trainspotting" by Irvine Welch, I was partly to get into the skin addict, psychopath or HIV-positive, although, fortunately, was neither one nor the other, nor the third. Well, or the need to translate a novel written by, say, on behalf of the serial maniac, no one is not required to present a record finish off the victims.

But why go far, I do not just happen to translate works written by women - both traditional and nontraditional orientation: for example, Gabriel Wittkop, Susan Sontag and Margaret Atwood. In general, the literature so might just as well that allows you to try uncharacteristic and even alien to your role, compelling look at the world and your own place in it under different and sometimes mutually angles. And the translation - perhaps the most intimate way to communicate with literary work. Returning to Aliber, Zhuando and others, I myself would be interested from a professional point of view to know the extent to which managed to convey specific homosexual nuances and subtexts.

In 2007 you had a poetry festival "in bed with Nugatovym. And how deeply "bogged down" in bed modern poetry?

I think in bed (and often quite stale) is caught not only modern poetry, and contemporary art and contemporary music, and contemporary politics, and the whole social life. To paraphrase a classic, I could exclaim: "The whole world - the bed, and the people in her fuck. Although, of course, but also sleep, eat, fart, get sick and die. In other words, soft bed is a huge place in the life of modern man (as opposed, for example, from a man of the Stone Age). Why did this happen? Apparently, because of the natural human tendency to comfort, warmth, soft mattress, rhythmic body movements, sweet dreams. Of course, the bed pampered yourself person, but are we entitled to condemn him for it? Surely after all the wars, disasters, hardships, crises, epidemics, depression and hard labor he has no right to a well-deserved rest?

Poetry, in my opinion, too much podustala, fizzled out, overspend, and withered, her days are numbered, and she is keen to calm a horizontal position. That is why the bed and provides the most reliable checkpoint in great literature: if a poet or a poet good at it, they compose poems as sure as anything can be and survive.
